Boise State typically isn't known for their men's basketball program-- it's that simple. While the team is lead by the winningest coach in Boise State history, Leon Rice, and has had some strong years--it's the shadow of the football program that most other sports are forced to live in.

This year has been different. Leon Rice and his team have proven they're tough and the win on Tuesday night meant that for the FIRST TIME in program history, the Broncos were the ONE and ONLY regular season champions! Such an impressive accomplishment.

Leading up to the game, many fans were challenging the Boise State student section to show up. Fans have been critical of the student section all year--because of mediocre turnout. Tuesday night, the students were out in full force and with a win against Nevada in order and the regular season championship on the line, fans were HYPING these students.

STORM THE COURT, so many cheered!

Hours before tipoff, B.J. Rains for Bronco Nation News tweeted intel that students were specifically being told NOT to storm the court, knowing that it was being planned should the Broncos win:

So, the Broncos win and what happened? The court was stormed...on one side.

On the other side of the basketball court, an entirely different scene was taking place:

Security Slams Boise State Students to Ground After Win

History was made at ExtraMile Arena on the night of Tuesday, March 1st. When you think of the arena--you may think of your favorite concerts or acts. No, a sell out crowd didn't set a record. The Boise State men's basketball team did. One might think that a major celebration was in order. Clearly, some security folks had a different idea.

  YIKES.

We get it-- there is safety involved along with crowd control and more. Storming the court isn't normal--but it's also COLLEGE BASKETBALL and history was made. What on earth were these security folks thinking? It seems to us that more damage was done by the security force than would have been if the students could just join their colleagues on the other side.  In light of this, the basketball team went to the other side of the court and greeted the students that had hoped to "storm"

Although Athletic Director Jeramiah Dickey shared that he was aware of the incident and looking into it-- one student replied honestly:

Do you think that these students should have just been allowed to do their thing and celebrate?

Boise State's Most Underappreciated Star

Boise State seems to mean "football" for most, right? On a national stage, after all, it's the blue turf and the success that the Broncos have had on it that made the university a household name. What happens on the hardwood, however, is far from appreciated at the level that it should be. Leon Rice came to Boise State as a blessing from one of the most powerful basketball programs in the nation: Gonzaga University. Now, the winningest basketball coach in the history of the school seems to take immediate heat if the Broncos aren't in the Final Four. Spoiled by wins on the football field, fans seem to expect the same of the basketball program but when the investment in basketball is so much less than football--can you really have these types of expectations!?
