An Up-Close Tour of One of Idaho’s Most Beautiful, Historic Cemeteries [PICS]
STAR CEMETERY: then and now
Star, Idaho. Records from the City of Star, show Star Cemetery was originally called Home of the Peace Cemetery. Records from the Star Cemetery Maintenance District show the burial grounds underwent a name-changed approximately 60 years ago.
In 1900, Star Cemetery's land was donated to the city by James and Jemima Ayers, both of whom are interred in its hollowed grounds. One year later, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows became the cemetery's trustees
Located at 9350 W. Floating Feather Road, Star Cemetery is populated with hundreds of souls; several of whom were pioneers of the Oregon Trail. The cemetery is also the eternal resting place of Veterans who fought in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
Like James and Jemima Ayers, several other well-known local families are laid to rest there. The Munger and Blessinger families are among those with Treasure Valley roads named after them.
