Idaho Judge Denies Delay in Murder Trial; Start Date Has Been Set
Tragedy struck and the world couldn't believe their eyes when headlines printed. Four University of Idaho students murdered in the quiet of night -- all stabbed to death -- and not a witness or clue in sight.
The entire globe followed the investigation and it was the story around the world. A house just steps away from the campus of the University of Idaho became a fixture on the nightly news and after weeks of investigation, an arrest was made across the country, in Pennsylvania.
Brian Kohberger has been in custody, accused of these murders, ever since.
Last year, nearly to the date on June 27th, in Moscow, Idaho, a hearing was held to set a date for the trial--nearly 2 years after the crime.
Deadlines were set for many different pieces of the trial--including hearings and different types of evidence and discovery reviews.
The quick hearing resulted in a target date of June, 2025, to begin Kohberger's trial.
Those following the case know that there have been no shortage of changes since then. Everything fro a change of venue to Ada County, a new judge, new rulings and so on.
The new Judge in the case, Steven Hippler, set a start date for this trial as August 11th, 2025 in Ada County.
Kohberger's defense team just recently asked for a delay in the trial (again) -- this time, because of a Dateline NBC episode that released new information which many suggest could have been from leaked evidence.
On Thursday afternoon, June 26th 2025, Judge Hippler issued his ruling: there will be no delay in the trial. Final decision.
After years of following this case--it's finally going to happen and it begins in August.
Opening statements for the trial are set for Monday, August 18th. The trial could last months.
