Middleton Heights Elementary Single Sex Classrooms In Violation Of Federal Law

Middleton Heights Elementary School is in trouble.  Scratch that... The Middleton School District is in trouble.

According to federal law you are not aloud to segregate students by gender.  The U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights concluded that single-sex classrooms at Middleton Heights is in violation of Title IX which prohibits gender discrimination in the classroom.

The school district states that boys and girls learn differently and that's why they've been separated.  Students in 2nd through 4th grade have been segregated at Middleton Heights for ten years now.

The school has every intention of following the law and will be returning to coeducational classrooms beginning with this school year.  All staff and administrators will also be trained under the Title IX federal law and they'll remain under supervision from the Department of Education at least through the 2020 school year.
