50 Dead In Gay Nightclub, Worst Mass Shooting In U.S. History

A man with an assault-type rifle and a handgun opened fired inside a crowded gay nightclub in Orlando early this morning.

SWAT officers finally took the man down and after the horrific count, the death toll is at 50.  This includes the gunman.  SWAT says this is the worst mass shooting in American history.

The gunman's father said he recently got upset after seeing two men kissing in Miami.

The club known as "Pulse" was just about to close.  That's when a man just walks in and starts shooting everyone.  Nobody had a chance.  The gunman then started exchanging fire with a police officer working with the club.  There were over 300 people inside.

Around 5 a.m. SWAT was sent in to rescue hostages.

Authorities are still looking into this as an act of domestic or international terror.  They're also looking into the possibility whether or not the shooter worked alone or with someone.  The suspect's name is Omar Mateen of St. Lucie, Florida.  Omar also had some sort of suspicious device with him.  It is not yet known what this device is.

A woman outside the club received a text message from her 30-year-old son that told her to call the police.  He and a number of other people were hiding in the bathroom.  He then texted that the man was coming.  He's in here with us.  He has us.  That was the last conversation.
