Why I Think The Doodle Is The Best Dog For Boise
It's safe to say I'm a dog guy. A dog lover. Can we even say dog owner anymore? Well, I am, that, a dog guy.
Boise Is Definitely A Dog Friendly City
That being said, I have had many dogs in my life over the years. The first dog I remember was a little brown mutt we named Windy.

She was a good dog; I remember her always scratching. My mom said she had a "hot spot" on her backside, and she put ointment on it every day that smelled awful. I also had a Cocker Spaniel named Elmo.

He was amazing, until my brother let him out of the backyard one day and he tried and failed to cross the nearby freeway.

Later in life, I would come to have a German Shepherd named Max that lived 13 years until the eventual heartbreak that comes with loving a dog.

That would be repeated with another German Shepherd who lived to be 13, Duke.
I heard this once somewhere: "What's the hardest thing about owning a dog?" The answer, "Saying good-bye."

After losing each dog, I vowed I would never have another one. My willpower is obviously weak when it comes to dogs.

Then one day at a corn maze, a guy had a litter of little black puff balls for sale. When I inquired, he told me they were, in fact, Mini Golden Doodles. When I asked about their color, he said it was a rare recessive gene that makes them all black.

My daughters begged, and for some unknown reason, I said yes. We left, specifically I left, with that little fluff ball in my jacket. We named him Boomer.

Boomer is perhaps the perfect dog. Great temperament. Perfect size. His coat, like most Doodles, is hypoallergenic and he doesn't shed. He plays fetch. Sits on your lap. Doesn't dig up the yard.

Doesn't bark for no reason. And if you want, he will sleep next to you and cuddle all night long. The perfect dog.

Is he the perfect dog for Boise? Yes. From taking him on walks along the greenbelt to the occasional take your dog to work day, he is perfectly perfect. I love this dog in a way that I can't fully understand or explain.
There's almost a human quality to him. I'm sure there are a lot of you that understand that statement.

Golden-, Labra-, Berna-.....all "Doodles" are incredibly smart, adorable, and a excellent family dog. They are also highly trainable for a variety of scenarios from therapy pets to hunting dogs. (Afterall, they are crossed with breeds that have a wide range of talents)

On a practical note, when it comes to things like renting an apartment or house. He is perfectly acceptable as well. Boomer is 35 pounds, and he is not on the dangerous breed list. Perfect. He's friendly with strangers. Perfect. He gets along with our cats. Perfect.

Now your buddies may give you a hard time about owning a doodle instead of a Pitbull, German Shepherd, Lab, German Shorthair, Golden Retriever, etc., but you can rest easy knowing you have perhaps, the perfect dog, not just for Boise, but, anywhere.
