There's been a shocking development in the early morning accident in Canyon County that killed a teenager.
At first, it appeared to be a tragic accident, but after further investigation, it appears that what was first thought to be a hit-and-run may have been intentional.
According to Idaho News 6, a Caldwell woman has been charged with first-degree murder and booked into jail.
The Nampa Police Department says that Alissa Mae Huerta, 18, of Caldwell, is being charged with first-degree murder for the death of 19-year-old Jade Aliyah Ramirez, 19, also of Caldwell.
The incident happened at 4:20 am Sunday in a parking lot on the 1500 Block of Caldwell Blvd, where witnesses reported a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle.
When police arrived, they found Ramirez who was then transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. She later died.
According to previous police reports, the vehicle left the scene before their arrival.
As the investigation continued, detectives identified the vehicle and driver, determined the collision was intentional, and arrested Huerta.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and are asking the public to come forward with any information they may have regarding the incident. Especially eyewitnesses who may be vital to solving the case.
Witnesses or anyone who believes they have information can call the Nampa Police Department and leave a voicemail at 208-468-5633.
