George Strait Is the First Artist to Land 100 Songs on Billboard Country Airplay Chart
George Strait has made history on Billboard's Country Airplay chart with his latest single "The Weight of the Badge." With the song's entry onto the chart for the week of Oct. 19, Strait becomes the first artist ever to chart 100 songs on the Country Airplay chart.
The Billboard Country Airplay chart was first published on Jan. 20, 1990. At the time, Strait was already an established superstar in the country music community, thanks to his hits as "Amarillo by Morning," "The Chair" and "You Look So Good in Love," among many others.
In the years since, the megastar has earned 61 Top 10 hits (also a record) and 26 No. 1 hits on the chart.
Currently, Strait's 26 Country Airplay No. 1 songs place him third in the running for the most No. 1s, with Alan Jackson and Blake Shelton in the same position. Tim McGraw is in second place with 29 No. 1 songs, and Kenny Chesney leads with 30 No. 1s. Strait's most recent single to lead the chart is 2009's "River of Love."
"The Weight of the Badge," from Strait's newest album, Honky Tonk Time Machine, debuted on the Country Airplay chart at No. 56. Strait co-wrote the song with his son, Bubba Strait, and Dean Dillion; it's a tribute to the men and women who are first responders. "The Weight of the Badge" follows Strait's previous single, "Every Little Honky Tonk Bar," which peaked at No. 17 on the Country Airplay chart in May.
Strait will continue his Las Vegas residency in 2020. New shows are scheduled for Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, and tickets are available on Strait to Vegas website.
