You know that 25-mile long park that runs along the Boise River? Yeah, the Greenbelt, it turns 45 years old today!!!

To celebrate the long history of the Greenbelt, there are a bunch of celebrations on and off the Greenbelt. Here's a little bit of what's going on. *Courtesy of City of Boise.

Monday, Oct. 6 • 11 a.m., celebration honoring William Onweiler, an early advocate for the creation of the Greenbelt, Shoreline Park, 1375 W. Shoreline Drive. (208) 608-7611

Tuesday, Oct. 7 • Get up and move during your lunch hour and join us for a walk on the Greenbelt as we celebrate the 45th birthday of this great gem in our city. Come enjoy a crisp fall day while getting the benefits of walking. The group will meet in Julia Davis Park near the Friendship Bridge at 12pm. Test your knowledge of the Greenbelt by participating in a scavenger hunt while you walk. Small prizes will be offered at the end. The signs were renovated in 2013 as a special project for BOISE 150. Wednesday, Oct. 8 • Noon, Ann Morrison Tree Walk with Boise Community Forestry. Meet at the Old Timer’s Shelter. (208) 608-7700.

Thursday, Oct. 9 • 1:30 p.m., Dedication of FACTS plaque and commemorative kiosk, east of Idaho Department of Parks & Recreation, 5657 Warm Springs Ave. Sponsored by Ada County and the Foundation for Ada/Canyon Trail Systems. http://factsidaho.org. • 5:30 p.m., Renovation of the Oregon Trail Memorial Bridge. The bridge was renovated in 2013 as a special project for BOISE 150. The City of Boise, the Ada County Highway District, the Idaho Heritage Trust, and private citizens joined together to bring this Boise landmark back to life. Refreshments, live music, a dedication ceremony, and a presentation on New Deal architecture will be a part of the evening’s celebrations. (208) 433-5670

All week - Greenbelt Photo contest. Enter your favorite photo on social media, encourage your family and friends to vote, and win cash prizes! Bike scavenger hunt. Take a 10-mile spin along the pathway and learn about the history of this community treasure along the way.
