It's finally happening.  According to the Idaho Statesman legislation to protect breastfeeding moms by exempting breastfeeding from Idaho's indecent exposure and obscenity laws passed the house today with a unanimous vote which means the rights of mothers here in Idaho have completely changed in the past 15 years.

This has been a hot topic for years now.  Is it appropriate for mothers to breastfeed in public or should they take it somewhere private?  Well there was no debate when this issue came up for voting today and the result was a staggering 66 votes for and 0 against.

I've never had a problem with a woman whipping it out and feeding her baby and you can trust me when I say there's absolutely nothing sexual to that comment.  For me, a mother's right to do what is natural, even if it's in public is her right.  I may get some heat for saying that but I don't care if it's in a restaurant, at a school, in church or wherever.  I'm not sitting there staring at what's going on and nobody else should be either.  What's the big deal?  It's a boob.  We all have them and for a mother who's nursing there's something wonderful about it.  That doesn't change just because she's in public.

Now I can already hear the negative comments coming at me with...

  • "Why can't she do it in private?"
  • "Other parts of our body are natural too but we don't whip those out"
  • "Be considerate of others"

I'm sure there's hundreds of other comments that I can't even think of right now but for me, the truth is, I don't care.  I believe in people having as many rights as possible as long as it doesn't hurt anyone and some woman whipping her boob out to feed her child is just not that big of a deal.

Idaho is the only state in America that has not passed a law to protect women in these types of situations.  Why is that?  What are we doing and why are we so bent on prosecuting and persecuting people that just don't deserve it?  I feel this legislation is a fantastic step in the right direction and I applaud all those that took part in making this happen.
