Idaho State Police issued a press release stating they are investigating a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 in Canyon County that turned deadly after a pickup reportedly fled an earlier crash and began driving the wrong way on eastbound interstate lanes.

ISP says the crash happened Friday, February 6, 2026, at about 7:54 p.m. on eastbound I-84 near milepost 32.

What ISP Says Happened on I-84

According to ISP, a silver 2003 Ford F-350 driven by a 37-year-old man from Nampa fled the scene of a crash and then drove against traffic on the eastbound lanes on I-84.

Troopers say the Ford side-swiped a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia driven by a 61-year-old man from Jacksonville, Florida, then kept driving the wrong way before running head-on into a silver 2013 Hyundai Elantra.

Who Was Involved

ISP says the Hyundai was driven by a 23-year-old man from Ontario, Oregon, with a 20-year-old female passenger from Homedale, Idaho.

A silver 2019 Honda HR-V was also involved. ISP says it was driven by a 23-year-old woman from Nampa, along with a 20-year-old female passenger from Ontario, Oregon.

One Person Died at the Scene

ISP says the 20-year-old female passenger in the Hyundai died at the scene.

The driver of the Freightliner was reported uninjured. ISP says everyone else involved was transported by ground ambulance to local hospitals.

Road Closures and Investigation

ISP says all eastbound lanes of I-84 were blocked for about four hours while crews responded and cleared the scene.

ISP was assisted by the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office, Meridian Police Department, Canyon County Paramedics, Caldwell Fire Department, and the Idaho Transportation Department. The crash remains under investigation.

Another Major Crash in Canyon County That Same Weekend

ISP also investigated a serious injury crash near Parma on Saturday morning involving a Union Pacific locomotive and a semi-dump truck in dense fog, which blocked the roadway and railroad for more than six hours.
