Idaho is #1 at So Many Things!

It really doesn't surprise me that Idaho is #1 at so many things, but it sure makes me proud to live here!Here's some of the things that we are #1 in the country for

1. Idaho is #1 for potato production (I know I know, it's what we are known for, but it's still pretty cool! My kids love buying potatoes at the story and knowing the came from the ground right here!) Ever year Idaho soil produces 1.3 billion potatoes! Washington is the state closest to our potato production, but we produce 30% more than they do!

2.Not only do we grow a lot of potatoes, but we tie Washington as the #1 onion producer in the country. (I never knew this until I moved here, but I've seen truck loads and truck loads of onions on I-84.)

3. Idaho is #1 for trout fishing! 50% of the nations trout comes from right here in Idaho. In fact we are the largest trout producer in the whole world! It's a $58 billion industry!

4. Idaho is #1 for protecting our wilderness! We've got 2.3 billion acres of unspoiled, rugged back country.

5. We are #1 in the country in the escape from city life! In fact, the Owyhee Canyonlands is the largest remote area in the lower 48 states!

6. We're #1 when it comes to gem mining! There's a real reason we're known as the Gem State. Over 240 types of gems have been found right here in Idaho. We're also one of the top 10 mining districts in the world!

7. We're #1 for rivers! We've got 3,100 miles of riverways! That's a lot to float on!

8. We're the #1 relaxing state! People say they are the most content here and we've got the most natural hot springs in the country! It doesn't get any more relaxing than that!
