Idaho Regatta Cancelled – Burley
High water along the Snake River has forced the cancellation of the annual Idaho Regatta.
The Boise River isn't the only river that's running high and fast this summer. The Snake River is doing the same. So much so, that officials have decided it's unsafe for the drivers of the speedboats, the safety crews, officials and spectators.
The official Idaho Regatta Facebook page had this post:
2017 IDAHO REGATTA - Cancelled!
It is with great disappointment that we announce the cancellation of the 2017 Idaho Regatta. The staff of the regatta has spent the the last two days discussing this matter with the Bureau of Reclamation, Minidoka County Sheriff’s and Cassia County Sheriff’s. The result of these meeting has resulted in the cancellation of the 2017 Idaho Regatta. The concern for the safety of the Rescue Teams , Boat Racers and Damage to the private property located on the back side of the race course is the reason for the decision made by the Idaho Regatta after exploring all possible options to continue with the event.
The Idaho Regatta committee is looking at the possibility of rescheduling the event in September. Please bear with us as we work though this difficult situation and try to make the best out of it. We will keep everyone informed as to what is going to happen.
We do ask that no-one assume anything until there is official notification from the Idaho Regatta in regards to the rescheduling of the event.
Thank You everyone for your support and we will do everything in our power to keep the Idaho Regatta a premier event in the the future.
Sincerely, Louis Schindler
Chairman Idaho Regatta Committee
While I'm sure everyone involved is disappointed, especially the drivers, I'm also positive it's probably the best decision for the safety of everyone.
Watch for the announcement of the reschedule!
If you've never been to the Idaho Regatta, here's some of the action from years past.
