Representation is everything when it comes to making decisions and being heard in the public forum. How are you represented? It can come down to who you are voting for and eventually, who wins these elections-- are they representative of your views?

There are all sort of layers to representation but perhaps one of the most important things is to make sure our youth know that not only do their voices matter now--but we're counting on them for the future, as well.

This is why there is an "advisory council" here in Idaho open to Idaho students from across the state that is directly involved with education and public instruction.

In a recent statement to Idaho's KIFI news, Superintendent of Public Instruction, Sherri Ybarra said of the advisory council currently in place:

I had high hopes when I launched this advisory council last year, and the results have far exceeded my expectations. These 13 amazing students from all grade levels and regions of the state have suggested and examined key issues, met with the governor, attended education committee meetings and conducted mock legislative sessions. Two of them testified at actual legislative hearings, advocating for bills that are now law.

Now, the council is looking for a new group of students to take on the opportunity and represent their classmates and fellow students here in Idaho.

Interested in joining or know of a student that might be? Students must be in 4th-12th grade for the 2022-2023 school year.

There are some other requirements as well--you can find them and apply, HERE.
