How You Can Beat The Idaho Heat Without AC!
Summer has finally arrived. Temperatures are rising in the Treasure Valley, and for those without adequate air conditioning, staying cool over the next couple of months can be quite a challenge.
Here are some tricks to stay cool on a budget in Idaho
If you have ceiling fans, use them, but make sure they are pulling the hot air up into the fan and not forcing hot air down into the room. Also, if you are using a fox fan, make sure it is blowing the air out of the room and not drawing hot air from outside into the room.

Keep curtains and shades closed during the day when you are away or at work. This keeps the sun from warming up a room throughout the day. Once the outside temps dip in the evening or when the sun goes down, create a cool zone by opening windows or doors at opposite ends of the house or room to let cooler air flow through it.

Turn off heat-generating appliances during the day and avoid using the stove or dryer during the heat of the day.
Additionally, staying hydrated, using lighter bedding/sheets, and using cool/damp clothes or ice packs can help regulate your body temp when it gets especially hot.

Please keep in mind that seniors and the young are especially vulnerable when it comes to heat related emergencies. Check on them and make sure they are also staying hydrated and seeking shade and cooler environments.

And finally, your pets. No matter their size or variety, the basic rule of thumb is that if you're hot, they're hot! Keep them indoors or at least provide shade and adequate water for hydration.
And of course, DO NOT KEEP PETS IN A LOCKED CAR IN THE HEAT EVER.
