Kuna’s New High School Gets Official Name

Two years ago, voters living in Kuna had to vote on a $40 million bond that would secure funds to build a third high school in the rapidly growing town. According to KTVB, the bond passed with a two-thirds approval allowing for the process of building the new school begin.

Now after much anticipation and feedback from the community, the Kuna School District announced Tuesday night that the new school will be called Swan Falls High School and will be open and ready to go by the Fall of 2020.

Right now, according to KTVB, Kuna High School has a capacity of 1,500 students, however, district officials anticipate that there will be about 1,700 students going into the 2019-2020 school year. That is a big increase that would definitely warrant a new school to accommodate for those new students.

The bond that passed two years ago will be funding phase one of the projects which according to KTVB, will include space to accommodate about "500 students, as well as several new career and technical programs."

Director of communications for Kuna School District, David Reinhart, told KTVB that as the growth of the community increases they'll add additional phases that will accommodate for more students.

Aside from announcing the name for the new high school, there was some more good news for the school district. Voters passed a levy for $2.5 million each year over the next two years. That levy will allow the district to hire additional teachers to help minimize the overcrowded classrooms, allows the purchase of a language arts curriculum, musical instruments and science curriculum, and safety improvements to schools in the district."
