There's SO much to do in the Treasure Valley every weekend!  Here are Amy Larson's picks for this weekend.

On Saturday from 3-4pm, it’s Flamenco! for kids ages 5-12 at the Cole & Ustick Library.

First, kids will get a little history of Spain, Columbus and bull fighters and ancient stories and such, then they’ll be introduced to Flamenco! rhythm and learn to dance through fun and games, the same way children in Spain do. Having kids that know how to dance Flamenco!-style could really liven up life at home, and if nothing else it’s a great photo opp.

On Sunday the twelfth (at twelve!) dogs of all colors and their owners will walk along the Boise River to bring greater awareness to Black Dog and Black Cat Syndrome, where black dogs and cats have the lowest adoption rates of any animals in the shelter. Black cats often don’t get adopted because of the old superstition, and are at the very lowest of rates when it comes to getting adopted.  I read on the Internet (so it must be true) that one of other actual real reasons for this is that photographing them is so tricky, so it’s hard to capture any sweet animal expressions and advertise that.

So… walk your dogs by the River with some friends, raise awareness, enjoy what the ad calls ‘paw-stomping’ tunes by Ted Coe and get some free dog food samples, and free dog training tips from Bad Behavior/ Good Dog. There’s also a free raffle where you could win three days at Camp Bow Wow and other prizes.

Dogs and their owners will be meeting on the Greenbelt near The Ram at 709 E. Park Blvd. at noon, near the front of the east parking lot to start off the dog walk.

From 10-1 on Saturday at the Foothills Learning Center there’s “Slips, Slides, and Explosions where you can watch earthquake faults grow right in front of your eyes in a mock demonstration, or wee an exploding trash volcano. Kids can make 3-D paper volcanoes and a model of the Earth with all of its earthquake faults. Several BSU geologists will be showing people some of the local faults and geologic features in the foothills.

This is family friendly and it’s free.
