I found myself in a bit of a bind recently: I forgot Billy's birthday until a few days before his party, but I wanted to get him something fun and personal. He's a big bowler — he's been in a league for a few years and has the shoes, ball and bag. But he didn't have a bowling shirt.

I immediately thought of my friends at McU Sports. Aside from bicycles, skis, snowboards and athletic gear, they also offer embroidery and screen-printing on a wide variety of apparel — the merchandise they sell in the store, outerwear, work gear with reflective safety stripes, woven button-downs, outerwear, polo shirts, T-shirts — you get the idea.

My vision was a little limited. I sent Ruben in McU's art department just three words "Billy the Bowler" and his creativity blew me away. He pulled together these great graphics on the back, complete with shading and a bold white outline on the letters. For the words on the front, he had the Flintstones-style font, which is perfect since Fred and Barney bowl.

As you can see, the detail and print quality is amazing. I was so excited for Billy to open his present — and he loved it.

The other thing I learned is that McU's can embroider or screen-print almost any of the merchandise they sell. So if you or your business want to customize a North Face jacket or a Patagonia vest or shirt, you can try it on for the perfect fit and then ask them about customizing it.
