For the last 33 years, The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration has been known as the "Largest Fireworks Show West Of The Mississippi."

It boasts the aerial assault of thousands of shells over Idaho Falls for tens of thousands of spectators from all over the country.

Accompanied by a full patriotic soundtrack synced to the fireworks show and a full day of activities at Snake River Landing leading up to the show. Though the exact dollar amount of this annual tradition has never been revealed, it's estimated to exceed one million dollars.

 

But CEO and Idaho Billionaire Frank VanderSloot held a press conference and announced that 2026 would be the last one for the foreseeable future. VanderSloot was visibly emotional when recounting how much the celebration has meant to his family and how he has loved fireworks since he was 6 years old.

The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration, at its core, is a tribute to the military men and women who have served, fought, and died for this country. A sentiment that VanderSloot carries on in his sleeve and in his heart.

Citing issues with finding another adequate spot for the massive fireworks display that could accommodate the parking and patriotic aerial display safely.

The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration In Idaho Falls In The 5th Largest In The U.S.

VanderSloot mentioned that even if he did find a place soon, it would take millions of dollars and at least two years to prepare it for an event like The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration.

Total transparency, I worked for Frank for many years in Idaho Falls for his radio group, Riverbend Communications. And though I wasn't close to him personally, through many interviews and his company interaction, I know this has to be breaking his heart.


I also believe he has left the door open for a return of The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration. After all, I think he has the money and resources to find a suitable venue to host it, and it would be a triumphant return for it to continue when the time is right.

Until then, VanderSloot promises the biggest Melaleuca Freedom Celebration yet as we celebrate America's 250th birthday. I can't imagine this amazing display not going out without the biggest bang ever!
