30 cameras have been issued to supervisors and the Boise Police Department night team.  A total of 250 body cameras will be rolled out for officers over the next year.

Boise Police Chief Bill Bones states...

“Body cameras provide a tool which not only documents the great work officers do each day but improves our training, makes criminal prosecution more efficient and builds trust in the community by providing even greater transparency,”

December is when the plan to incorporate body cameras into policing for all 300 officers was announced.  Right now the officers just have audio recorders.

These new body cameras will continually record and all video will be stored in a cloud-based system.  These cameras are expected to cost around $56,000 in the first year and half a million dollars over the next five years.
