Idaho’s First Dunkin’ Sparks Historical Debate Nobody Asked For
Boise Donut Shop Sparks a Twin Falls Debate
Idaho’s first Dunkin’ is officially in the works, and it instantly triggered a full-on 'Wait… didn’t we already have one?' debate.
Two franchise groups are actively looking for locations in the Boise area right now, and it sounds like drive-thru sites are a major focus. So, it’s coming. There’s just no confirmed address or opening date yet.
Didn’t Boise Have a Dunkin' Donuts Already?
The moment the news broke, people immediately started insisting that Boise used to have a Dunkin’ on State Street back in the day. But after some debunking, it looks like the memory is very real, but the donut shop wasn’t. The building that many people associate with an old Dunkin’ was actually a Winchell’s. Now, it’s home to DK Donuts.
Twin Falls Is Having the Same Argument Right Now
And now Twin Falls is doing the same thing. Residents from Earth 347 in the Multiverse swear that Rose Tattoo Shop on Blue Lakes, across from the Lynwood Shopping Center, used to be a Dunkin’ Donuts in the late ’80s.
I’m prepared to be wrong here, but I swear that’s not the case.
Was it a donut shop at one point? I’m 100 percent sure it was.
Was it Dunkin’? I really don’t think so.
This feels like the Twin Falls version of the same Mandela Effect happening in Boise. People want it to have been Dunkin’, but I’m convinced the shop on Blue Lakes was a Winchell’s.
That Building Hasn’t Had Donuts in a Long Time
What I can tell you is that the Blue Lakes location hasn’t been serving donuts or any kind of food for a long time.
As far back as 2006, it was home to Fat Rat Tattoo.
From 2011 through 2020, it was a car title loan business.
Black Rose Tattoo set up shop in 2021 and currently occupies the space.
If you can prove me wrong, I genuinely want to see it. Old photos, ads, receipts, newspaper clippings… anything. Drop it in the comments.
