I've been living in a hotel for 2 months while I sell my house back in Salt Lake City and buy a new house here in Boise. All I have is a mini-fridge and a microwave, so I eat out a lot! At first I couldn't help myself. I went to all the great restaurants in town because we have really good food here, but pretty soon my wallet couldn't handle all of the nice sit down dinners and it was time to find some cheap eats!

Here are my Top 5 Favorite ways to eat cheap!

  1. Pizza Pie Café off of Broadway (You can get their Pasta Bar to Go for $3.99!! This always lasts me two meals, you can choose from lots of different noodles, and several different sauces. I go here about every other day! Their salad bar is also really good if I need some roughage! It's $5.99... but like I said you have to get some veggies sometimes!)
  2. Del Taco (Anyone on a tight budget knows tacos and burritos are the way to go! My favorite bang for your buck item on the menu is their 1/2 lb bean and cheese burrito with red sauce! It's one big burrito for $1)
  3. Cup of Noodles with Lime (I keep these on hand in my hotel room and I always have fresh limes in the fridge. I like spice, so I buy the Spicy Chicken Cup of Noodles and squeeze the fresh lime in them. The lime makes it feel a little fancier and it kills the heat a bit. Best .59 buy you'll find!)
  4. McDonald's $1 Menu (Breakfast Burritos, Sausage McMuffins, and Spicy McChicken sandwiches are my staples here. I think the most expensive item is $1.29 and I figure at least I'm getting some protein!)
  5. Mongolian BBQ (I don't think this place exists back in Utah! I love it! You pick out veggies, meats, noodles, and sauce and then they cook it right in front of you! They even have crab on the dinner selection and for about $10 you easily have 2 good, fairly healthy meals that you can easily re-heat!)

Happy cheap eating folks!
