My oldest daughter came to me to the other day and said, “Dad, I sure do miss getting that allowance thing.”

She’s seven years old and we used to pay her five dollars a week.  She had to put 10 percent towards tithing, 10 percent towards savings, and the rest she could spend on whatever seven year old girls spend their money on.

We stopped giving her an allowance about a year ago.  Not because of something she did wrong, but mainly because I constantly forget to get cash, and our kid isn't set up to take credit cards….yet…

But since we’re going to start up the allowance thing again, I decided to restructure it.  Such things happen when parties return to the collective bargaining table.  I've decided that she is going to be paid for doing work.  If she doesn't do her work (small chores a seven year old can actually do), or if her work is done poorly, then she doesn't get paid.

Too hardcore when dealing with a seven year old?  Let me know in the comments below.
