Usually, we are very proud to call Idaho home, but this new study has us hanging our heads low.

Safehome.org has deemed us the 51st Smartest State in America. Translation, we're not very bright.

Even worse, the study has evidence from the U.S. Census Bureau, The U.S. Department of Education, the College Board, plus ACT and SAT tests to compile their scores.

The conclusion...

Only 18.2% of adults over 25 have a bachelor's degree in Idaho.

We have an 80% rate of high school graduation.

The average ACT score is 22.3 and the average SAT score is 993.

New Jersey was found to be the smartest state in the country.

What are your thoughts on this study? It's hard to accept that evidence for me because I certainly don't want to think we're dumb and I don't want to think of raising my kids with a subpar educational system.

That being said, as much as Idaho education gets a bad rap, coming from Utah I haven't seen much of a difference between the education here or there. I'm impressed with what my kids are learning in school and I feel like they are much smarter than I was at their ages.

I've also come to learn that there are many definitions of "smart." There's book smart, which is more what this study is focused on, but there is also street smart. It's obviously important to be business savvy, and that doesn't always coincide with being a good test taker.

Bottom line, hold your head up high again Idaho. I think we're smart, just in our own unique way!
