Gallery: Idaho Windstorm Leaves Trail of Wreckage Across the State

If you were anywhere in Southern Idaho on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, you felt it. The National Weather Service reported sustained winds around 30 mph, with storms capable of producing gusts up to 70 mph.

Those winds were strong enough to deal massive damage. Trees came down, power poles snapped, and tractor-trailers got pushed over like toys.

The photo gallery provided by the Idaho Transportation Department shows a small glimpse of what that looked like on Southern Idaho roadways.

On December 17, 2025, the National Weather Service reported sustained winds of 30 mph and gusts approaching 70 mph in Southern Idaho. Crashes and Rollovers Reported on I-15

In Southeastern Idaho, the Idaho State Police reported multiple crashes and rollovers on Interstate 15 in Bannock County, with winds and gusts playing a major role. Police said approximately 11 separate incidents were reported between 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

ITD also warned that the storm was causing widespread incidents like downed trees, power lines, and toppled semis, and that travel conditions were changing fast.

Injuries in Twin Falls County

One of the most serious incidents reported in Southern Idaho involved two children who were critically injured after high winds felled rotten trees and power lines while they were waiting for the school bus.

A Fatal Incident Reported in North Idaho

In North Idaho, officials reported a 55-year-old man was killed after a tree fell onto a home in Fernan Village.

As of Wednesday’s reporting, the storm’s impacts are still developing. Officials are still working through damage reports.
