No Game, No Problem: Boise State Climbs the Rankings

It was a massive weekend in the land of college football and the shakeup going into this coming week is real.

A record breaking number of top teams took a loss all in the same weekend. Notre Dame, Georgia, Indiana, Alabama...among others...all taking major losses in the middle of the season.

Here in Boise? All was quiet.

The Boise State football team had a bye week on their schedule meaning that there was no game here at home or anywhere else. While bye weeks are crucial for preparation, recovery, and re-grouping, sometimes they can be a bit of a pest when it comes to statistics and rankings.

Having NO data can hurt you in a world where stats are king and the race to the College Football Playoff is cutthroat.

The shakeup this week seemed only help Boise State despite the bye week, as the Broncos finally climbed in the Top 25 rankings.

It feels a bit ironic--the last two weeks, Boise State has won their football game and not moved an inch in the rankings. This week, with no game, The Broncos are up two spots in the Top 25.

In both polls for Week 8 Boise State was up two positions. This places them:

• Ranked #21 in the AP Poll
• Ranked #22 in the Coaches Poll

Remember, the highest ranked 'Non-Power' team (currently Boise State) gets that guaranteed slot into the College Football Playoff bracket.
