Flash floods and mudslides have destroyed a popular Idaho campground for the foreseeable future an now, officials are offering the public a look at just how significant the damage was.

The floods brought more than just property damage--they required first responders to get folks that were trapped, out and to safety. The initial response rescued upwards of 14 people, including one man who had to get into a tree to remain safe from flood waters.

Most recently, another rescue sweep pulled 12 people out of the area from Sawtooth Lodge, where they had hiked to from the mess.

The mudslides that we continue to hear about in the news and have now seen in the photos above, were clearly nothing shy of disastrous.

We shared a post earlier about the Grand Jean Trailhead and Campground being closed. The northeast side of Boise County has been hammered with flash floods. A lot of this area was burned by the Wapiti Fire in 2024 which has caused many mudslides.
Here are just a few photos taken from the Grand Jean Campground and trailhead area.
This will not be an easy cleanup task. Please expect some time before the Forest Service has the area reopened.

Taking a look at just how serious the damage was at these mudslides locations, we really can't help but wonder HOW the Forest Service will even begin to clean all of this up. It's also interesting to learn that wildfires from two years ago are a main cause of the damage. Yet another reason to work tirelessly to prevent these types a fires.

Tons of personal property such as vehicles, campers, and more have been damaged by the mudslides as you can see clearly in these photos. We hope everyone impacted is doing well, all things considered, and are thankful for local crews that will begin cleanup on this.
