I've had many o' minimum wage jobs in California, from working at McDonald's (where I got paid only 5.90 for 90 days - I didn't last long) to Subway, and countless restaurants. So I know the perils of living paycheck to paycheck and almost crying every time I got a check. Well, Washington D.C. and other cities and states (including Idaho) around the country are trying to change that. The Huffington Post reported that the D.C. council could vote in early December to raise the minimum wage from $8.25 ($1 more than Idaho's minimum wage - the federal minimum) to $11.50 by 2016!!!

Councilmember Vincent Orange prefers a $12.50 minimum, but admits $11.50 would be more feasible.

Many cities are taking matters into their own hands. Minimum wage advocates in Idaho are proposing a law that could increase the wage from $7.25 to as much as $9.80 per hour by the year 2017. They are currently collecting signatures to get this on the ballot by next year!
