A new study published in the journal Neurology finds that older people who snore or experience sleep apnea tend to experience dementia about 10 years earlier than those without sleeping disorders. Among elderly people who developed Alzheimer’s or milder dementias, the average age of onset was 77 for those with sleep problems and 90 for those without.

“We didn’t find that snoring causes dementia,“ says lead study author Dr. Ricardo S. Oosrio. “In those people that reported that they had sleep apnea, and were not treating it, the age of decline was earlier.“ Previous studies have found that sleep problems are also a symptom of dementia.

I had a REAL snoring problem for a while. I lost a bunch of weight, and I purchased a mouth piece from a company called "Pure Sleep". Both helped, but I still have nights where my wife makes me turn on my side. Snoring can lead to a lot of other issues, like high blood pressure, cardiac problems, strokes, etc.

Bottom line - if someone you love snores, have them get checked and start finding ways to remedy the problem. Snoring...it's just NOT good.
