This week is National Police Week and at a time when we should be expressing our gratitude for the risk that our officers take every day to keep us safe... it's time to salute them for a heartfelt gesture that may have you reaching for a tissue.

Going above and beyond the call of duty

The Bosie Police Department recently shared a post to their page that, at the time of this writing, has amassed nearly 2,000 reactions on Facebook. If we had to guess, we'd say that all 2,000 probably had to rub a tear or two away from their eyes.

"This past weekend several Boise Police officers had the honor of showing up and supporting Lauren as she graduated from Boise State University," Boise PD shared in their post.

"In May of 2019, Lauren’s father Jon, an officer of 39 years with the Seattle Police Department, passed away after battling terminal lung cancer for 3 ½ years."

And boy, did they show up.

In the post, we can see seven officers surrounding the BSU grad, Lauren, and trust us when we say that it's a tear-jerker. Boise PD shared that it was Lauren's mom who reached out on behalf of her BSU grad.

"Her mother reached out to us asking if we could send an officer to the ceremony as a surprise to help make a bittersweet moment in Lauren’s life a little sweeter," Boise PD said, "As you can see, our officers were so proud to show up for Lauren and her family and we thank them for inviting us to be a small part of such a special day."

A couple of things to acknowledge here: first - how amazing is it that Boise PD expressed their gratitude and pride to be a part of Lauren's big day? Second, this is a prime example of the kinship that first responders have with one another.

We don't know for sure if Lauren's father had any friendships or relationships with the Boise officers in the photo but that's beside the point.

We have another reason to say "thank you" to these officers during National P

If you see an officer, let them know how much you appreciate them. It's the least we can do as they continue to go above and beyond the call of duty.
