Beloved Boise Area Drive-In Will Not Open This Season as Its Future Remains Unclear

One of the things I appreciated most about moving from Twin Falls to the Boise area was having drive-ins again. Twin Falls lost its drive-ins for good years ago, and family movie nights on a Saturday have never quite felt the same since.

Now it looks like a Boise area drive-in may face a similar fate, for at least this season and perhaps longer.

Terrace Drive-In in Caldwell Announces Indefinite Closure

In a recent social media post, the operator behind the Terrace Drive-In said the theater will not be opening this season and admitted there is no confirmed timeline for reopening. The post also made clear that after two years of trying to bring the drive-in back, the work needed to safely and properly open isn't finished.

Why the Terrace Drive-In in Caldwell Says It Will Not Open for the 2026 Season

Along with saying the drive-in will stay dark this season, the operator said they are not sure when, or if, that will change.

While it is not being called a permanent closure, it’s also not being framed as a temporary delay with a firm comeback date.

The History of the Terrace Drive-In in Caldwell Goes Back Decades

The Terrace Drive-In has roots that go back more than 70 years.

It originally opened as the Chief Drive-In before later becoming the Terrace Drive-In, building a long legacy in Caldwell and becoming one of the Treasure Valley’s best-known seasonal movie attractions. Even people who have not gone in years still know the Terrace by name and remember what it meant during summers in the Boise area.

Recent Efforts to Revive the Terrace Drive-In Fell Short of Reopening Goals

Over the past two years, there had been hope that the Terrace could regain some momentum. The latest post makes clear that those efforts were real, but the improvements needed to reopen were not completed in time.

At the moment, the 2026 season is now off the table. 

What Comes Next for the Terrace Drive-In in Caldwell Remains Unclear

The future of the Terrace Drive-In is uncertain.

There is no announced reopening date, no confirmed timeline, and no guarantee the drive-in will return at all.  I hope that Terrance Drive-in gets the resources it needs to open in the future. We will keep you updated if we learn any new information about a possible future opening date.
