The Latest: 1 Dead After Massive Recall In California & Idaho
Have you heard about the nationwide fruit recall going on? It's a biggie, and it's affecting us right here in Idaho. I want to chat with you about it because it's really important we all stay informed and safe. You know how we love our fresh fruits, right? Peaches, nectarines, plums - they're all so delicious! But recently, these juicy treats have been linked to something not so sweet: a Listeria outbreak. Yep, you heard that right, Listeria monocytogenes, that nasty bug known for causing severe illness, has found its way into our favorite fruits.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is our go-to for the latest info on this. They're saying that 11 cases have been reported so far, all resulting in hospitalizations and even a death in California. Heartbreaking, isn't it?
What's even more shocking is that people affected by this outbreak are 18 times more likely to have eaten peaches, nectarines, or plums. That's a pretty strong link if you ask me! And here's where it hits home. HMC Farms, which sold whole peaches, plums, and nectarines in stores between May 1 and November 15 in both 2022 and 2023, issued a recall on November 17. We're talking about fruit that could be sitting in our fridges right now!
So, check your fruit bowls, your fridges, your freezers. If you've got any of the recalled fruit, don't eat it, sell it, or serve it. Instead, throw it away or return it to where you bought it – they'll give you a refund.
Let's keep each other safe, Idaho! We've got this!
