TMSG: Singer Rented Cherry Picker So She Could Keep Singing To Seniors

For years, Chicago-based performer Colette Hawley has made it her mission to visit senior centers and sing to residents. But when coronavirus hit, she was no longer allowed to go to the senior centers so she came up with an idea.

Hawley rented a 30-foot cheery picker bucket truck so that she could serenade residents from a safe distance. She got up on the cherry picker and sang to residents from outside the third and fourth floor windows of Chicago Methodist Senior Services. The residents were very grateful and showed Hawley their appreciation by clapping and waving, with some even being brought outside to dance on the sidewalk.

A video of Hawley singing to the residents went viral. She said,

“I did find the overwhelming response really heartening because it indicated to me that people really do want to see something good happening for seniors in these nursing homes. People just don’t know what to do and how to do it.”
