According to Cheap Insurance these are the top 5 automobiles in Idaho. I find it no surprise the top 4 are trucks.
1. The Ford F-150 - Not just the best selling vehicle in Idaho, but consistently the best selling truck in America. Rugged, Durable, Capable.
2. Chevrolet Silverado -The direct competitor to the Ford F-150, same intention, different manufacturer.
3. GMC Sierra - The more refined or luxury version of the Chevy Silverado.
4. RAM Pickup - (1500, 2500, 3500) The more aggressive counterpart to the Chevrolet and Ford offerings.
5. Toyota Rav 4 -The affordable and capable mid-sized SUV has become one of the most popular family vehicles since it's introduction to the car market.
When I moved to Idaho in 1996, it was obvious my rear wheel drive Mustang wasn't going to cut it as a daily driver in the 4 season state, especially during winter. My single cab Dodge Ram 2 wheel drive was also going to be at a disadvantage for the same reasons.
Therefore, it was only prudent to buy something with 4 wheel drive or all-wheel drive for safety and reliability during the colder months and snowy and icy conditions.
The Gem State and it's vast outdoor recreational opportunities for hunting, fishing, and camping makes a full size pick up the obvious choice for it's off-road and hauling capabilities.
Once might wonder, then why not say a Tundra or Tacoma at #5, instead of the mostly generic mid-size Rav 4 SUV?
Pickup Trucks Are The Top Picks For Transportation In Idaho
Well, when it comes to quality, value, gas mileage (a hybrid is available) it's hard to beat the Rav 4 for your typical suburban Idaho family.
Needless to say, the price of all these vehicles are about the same price of my first home, but, any version of the top five vehicles new or used are definitely the right choice for Idaho.
Drive safe out there and keep on truckin'.
