More than half of Idaho's ski resorts are opening up their slopes for summer mountain biking, and dozens of trails are just a short drive away.  Some of them are planning summer concerts too, and at least one will have 4th of July fireworks.

Tamarack Resort, Brundage Mountain, and Bogus Basin are three Idaho ski resorts that are turning their ski slopes into mountain bike trails this summer.

Tamarack is already open, and Brundage Mountain and Bogus Basin will open their trails this weekend.  They'll be open until around Labor Day, and then they'll close to get ready for the ski season in late November or December.  That leaves plenty of time to make the most of summer on the slopes, with new trails, disc golf, concerts, and in at least one case, fireworks!

Tamarack Resort has a 27-mile trail system and they're expanding it this year to include a new 1-mile intermediate trail with "wide berms and jumps" for advanced and mid-range riders. The resort will host the Northwest Cup Downhill Race June 25-27 and an outdoor concert series starting July 1.  Oh, and there's an outdoor ax-throwing facility in the Village now, plus a nine-hole disc golf course at the base of West Mountain.  What an amazing date weekend!  And they're planning fireworks on Saturday, July 3.

Wet conditions have hampered Bogus Basin so far this season, but starting June 19, all hiking and biking trails and the nine-hole disc golf course will be open. Yay!  My dad lives all the way in Nebraska so I can't take him for Father's Day, but a single Mama is always looking for things to do with the kids, and this is a screen-free option that's beckoning hard.  The mountain coaster, climbing wall, bungee trampoline, chairlift, and tubing hill will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting this weekend.  The Idaho Ski Association says Bogus Basin plans to host 70 events on the mountain this summer, including the Boise Mountain Biking Festival on Sept. 18.

Brundage Mountain is starting its summer operations this week too, on Friday, June 18.  The mountain already has a 26-mile trail system and this summer they're adding a section to the four-mile Lakeview Vista Trail to give mountain bikers more space to roam.  You'll be able to catch some sweet views of the Payette Lakes, Oregon's Eagle Cap Wilderness, and Idaho's Seven Devils Wilderness from the scenic chair lift, and that will look great on social media as long as you don't drop the phone.  Brundage is also planning several summer concerts, a 4th of July Music Fest, and the McCall Trailrunning Classic on July 17.

Experience gifts are supposed to be big for Father's Day, and an invigorating ride might be just the refresher that dad needs this summer.  It beats another tie and a bad set of hammers for sure.
