Let me clear the air before someone calls me "one of Boise's most useless California Transplants."

Yes, I'm from California, but I haven't lived in California for twelve years. I spent twelve years in Nebraska and moved here for this career opportunity. Does that make me a California transplant or a Nebraska transplant?

I would like to think of my wife and I as being Nebraska transplants.

Californians have relocated to Idaho for the last few years, many moving to the Treasure Valley. Some Idahoans don't care, but those who do have let their voices be heard. Mostly on social media, leaving comments encouraging Californians to go back home! As my wife and I spend more time throughout the Treasure Valley (we moved here from Nebraska in September 2022), it feels more and more like California. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way.

Even though Californians aren't the only ones moving here, there's a benefit to the growth of the Treasure Valley, right?

Some people will disagree, and that's okay. My first job in radio was in a town of 8,000 people in McCook, Nebraska, and that experience will forever change my outlook on life. There's a difference between wanting your town/city having success and having your town/city explode with people.

Will Idaho become more like California?

Today was the first time I have heard the term "Idahofornia."

Having lived in California, I would answer that question with a yes and no. Remember, I also spend twelve years in the Midwest and love the values of those in agriculture, those who work for the railroads, and the importance of those who love their neighbor as yourself. Obviously, people love California for the weather. In Boise, compared to Nebraska, the winters are mild. You'll get more sunshine in Nebraska, but you'll also get 12" of snow in one day.

When it comes down to it, Idaho will never be like California, but these are the reasons I feel it has a California vibe.
