What to do about Boise's Homeless??

There are thousands of people in the Treasure Valley who are homeless.  1,966 men, women, and children have absolutely no shelter at night.  Sometimes (by choice) they skip staying in a shelter.  Homeless people have issues.  Don't we all?  Maybe it's tough for them to be around other people.  Maybe they feel drugs or crime are too prevalent around shelters.  Doesn't really matter.  What does matter is that families and good people are living with no shelter right here in our backyard and winter's coming.  They need help!

Carly and I have started 1 Shirt 365 Days which helps a little with the overall morale for certain homeless people every day but this shelter issue is a much bigger problem and needs to be addressed in a big way.  And that's exactly what the Transform Idaho public meeting at the Boise Public Library Thursday night was for.  They're looking for solutions.

A moderator (the president for the Boise Coalition for the Homeless) was on hand to lead discussions between the public and the Boise chief of police, the Director of Boise Community Partnerships, and an Ada County Commissioner.

One of the possible solutions are these homes that look like sheep wagons.  Each wagon costs about $500 to build.  Now we're just trying to figure out where exactly to put these homes.

It's a complicated, detailed issue that takes a lot of people, thought, and work.  My hat's off to our community for recognizing the issue and jumping in head first trying to come up with solutions.  These families are people.  People that for whatever reason, ended up in a very bad place.  But they're here.  And one thing I've learned about living here, in Idaho, is that we have the most kind, generous, giving people there are.  And we take care of our own!
