A downtown transit system is coming, but will we see buses or trains?

After eight years, Mayor David Bieter is still proposing a rail system as the best option in downtown Boise. Some business leaders-and even some community members-opposed the idea.

Now, a new proposal will be made next month as to what would be the best option. A quick recap on costs:

Cost for new buses (upfront): $23 million

Cost for train system (upfront): $111 million

However, an engineering consultant estimates that a train system would see 300 more riders per day, and "induce long-term economic development worth close to $600 million."
