Chris Young Opens Up About 2013 Near-Death Experience on ‘CBS This Morning’
During an appearance on CBS This Morning on Friday (April 13), Chris Young opened up more than ever before about a near-death experience that could have changed everything for him.
"I went to the ICU and almost died," says the Tennessee native, recalling the simple leg infection caused him to go into septic shock while traveling on a plane back in 2013. "I never really broadcasted it so much, but they came in and said, 'we are taking you into surgery because your blood pressure is so low we are concerned about organ failure.'"
This brush with death wasn’t the only terrifying experience that Young has experienced on his way to country music stardom. During the same CBS This Morning interview, Young recounted being backstage at the Route 91 Festival in Las Vegas in October 2017 as shots began to ring out.
"It was really scary," he says. Young took cover in a trailer behind the stage as the attack — which left 58 people dead — continued.
"I called my mom and my sister in the middle of the night to tell them, ‘Hey, I’m in Las Vegas, I’m here and I’m alright.’ It was definitely a moment when you tell the people you love you love them as much as possible," he admits.
Both of these experiences will forever be etched in his memory as he continues to march forward in his career. Just recently, Young extended his wildly successful Losing Sleep 2018 World Tour, which will now include his first ever hometown headlining appearance at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on Sept. 22. He will also join a slew of his country music counterparts a trip back to Las Vegas to attend the 2018 Academy of Country Music Awards on April 15.
