There are no shortages of legends in Idaho. We (allegedly) have Bigfoot, cannibals living in the mountains, and even a lake monster near McCall.

We also have lost treasures, and one case in particular stands out because even today - no one knows where it is.

The Gem State's Lost Treasure

Can you imagine roaming the Idaho outdoors and stumbling across a massive diamond? That's exactly what happened in an area near New Meadows and McCall when someone came across what is being reported as "the largest diamond ever found in the United States" at nearly 20 carats, according to the Digital Atlas of Idaho.

We checked several diamond sites, and very few offer a price estimate for a diamond that size. WashingtonDiamond.com won't even evaluate the price of anything over 5 carat diamonds. Still, we were determined to find out how much a 20-carat diamond is actually worth.

In our search, we determined that a diamond that size is worth anywhere between $2.5 million up to $5 million depending on a variety of factors, including clarity, cut, and color grade.

There's just one more important detail to mention: no one knows where this diamond is.

What Do We Know About The Diamond?

According to one article, the diamond is known as the “Rock Flat Diamond” and, as we mentioned before, was found between McCall and New Meadows. We did track down a mining claim for sale we found through PicClick.com, which is located near Goose Creek in Idaho.

The seller mentions the nearly 20-carat diamond that was found in the area, but that's about it.

What Do You Think Happened To The Diamond?

Here's a wild thought: What if the diamond ended up not actually being a diamond? What if it was analyzed and determined to be something else, which would lead the owner to be too embarrassed to come out with that info?
