I Love Flamingos

It might not be the manliest bird in the world, but I love flamingos.

I can't pinpoint the exact moment that I fell in love with flamingos, but they are my favorite animal.  My tallest daughter has developed a love of flamingos as well and is continually dropping knowledge on me.  For instance, they may look a little goofy, but they are actually quite majestic in the air.  According to Tess, they can hit speeds of nearly 40 miles per hour while soaring. They also aren't pink at birth; they get that cool color from eating shrimp.  Which leads me to wonder, if eating certain food made you change color, would you still eat it?  Like what if pizza made you purple...?  I would look like a big grape.

But I digress.

Back to flamingos.  I think my favorite fact about flamingos is that they hook up for life.  Unlike a bunch of other birds who move from chick to chick, the flamingo sticks with their chosen mate.  Pretty cool bird, huh?
