FIRE HAZARD: Recall On A Popular Mower Used In Idaho

Mowing the lawn can be one of the most therapeutic chores someone can do, especially if they have access to a riding lawn mower. There's just something about taming the grass and it's even better if you have your favorite ice cold drink in tow.

John Deere Lawn Mower Recall 2025

John Deere is a household name and it's not very often we hear about them having to recall their products, especially their lawn mowers. According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, there have been "five reports of fires and 26 reports of melting and/or smoking" incidents with the recalled mower - thankfully, there haven't been any reports of injuries.

The report says that the recalled mowers were sold at "authorized John Deere dealers" throughout the country between October 2018 and September 2024; the price range for these mowers was between $8,000 and $11,500.

Which John Deere Mowers Are Being Recalled In 2025?

The name of the product is "John Deere ZTrak™ Turn Mowers with Kawasaki Engines" and according to the recall report, there were about 39,000 units of this model sold. The problem with the mower is pretty serious too:

The voltage regulator in the mower’s engine can fail during use or while the product is being stored, causing the engine to overheat, posing fire and burn hazards.

Can you imagine riding the mower, listening to some music, drink in hand... and then the mower just catches fire? The recall is affecting the "John Deere ZTrak Zero Turn Mowers with model numbers Z720E, Z730M, Z740R AND Z760R with Kawasaki engines."

The good news is that Kawasaki and John Deere contacted their authorized dealers to offer free repairs for those with the recalled mowers.
