Look - everyone makes mistakes and it's bound to happen. But, if we're being completely honest, we would have never imagined that a major blunder could be made on something as significant as a tribute statue for a legend who is no longer with us.

Someone Made An "Oopsie-Daisy" On An LA Lakers Legend's Statue

Kobe Bryant is arguably one of the greatest basketball players to have ever lived and had a remarkable 20-year NBA career that resulted in five championships, eighteen All-Star appearances, and an MVP award in '08. Bryant retired from basketball in 2016 and tragically passed away in a horrible helicopter crash along with several others including his daughter Gianna "Gigi" Bryant in January of 2020.

Since then, the Lakers have done plenty to honor the memory of Bryant and just last month, unveiled a statue of the Lakers legend that will sit outside of Crypto Arena (formerly Staples Center) for years to come.

The statue is inspired by a historical performance from Bryant back in 2006 that saw him put up a whopping 81 points against the Toronto Raptors. Those 81 points were the second-most by a player in NBA history since Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in March 1962.

It's a fitting tribute for a player who was known for scoring and hitting big shots in clutch moments.

Unfortunately, someone "dropped the ball" on the statue.

The statue features a mock box score stat sheet from that 81-point game and includes all of the participating players from the game. One of those players happens to be Charlie Villanueva and he shared some photos of the statue with some glaring mistakes:

Villanueva circled the goofs in his post but the names and among the words that were botched were: "Calderon", "Von", and "Decision."

According to ESPN, the Lakers plan on fixing the mistakes and said that they've been aware of them for some time now.

The mistakes don't take away from the greatness of Kobe Bryant or his bronze statue, but it would have been nice if someone took the time to proofread for mistakes before literally etching it in stone.
