Man From Star Donates Kidney To Kid He Doesn’t Know
Alex Fox of Star, Idaho donated his kidney to a little girl he doesn't even know because his son wanted him to.
Alex's 6-year-old son, Karston, has a rare condition called Arthrogryposis which leaves him unable to walk and he has trouble communicating. Karston is the entire inspiration of his dad's heroic actions in saving a little girl who needed a kidney.
Alex and Karston came across a Facebook post last year from a mother who has a daughter with special needs that needed a kidney transplant. 15-year-old Darienne Quiroz of Utah wouldn't make it if she didn't get the proper donor in a hurry. Once Alex and Karston saw the picture of this beautiful little girl... there was no stopping them.
Alex thought, "What if Karston needed this and I wasn't a match? I'd need someone to step up. So how can I not do that now for someone else in need?" Vigorous testing followed and Alex was a perfect match. So he traveled to Salt Lake City and donated one of his kidneys to Darienne, a girl he didn't even know.
The surgery was a complete success. Darienne's mom calls Alex their angel and can't thank him and Karston enough. There are no words for miracles, and that's exactly what this is. A selfless act of kindness from a stranger in Star, Idaho that gives a young girl the chance to dream, live, love, and move forward in life.
