A routine traffic stop last night turned horribly wrong when the passenger in the vehicle pulled out a gun. Here's how it went down.

Boise police pulled the car over at about 7:30 p.m. along 27th Street between Main Street and Fairview Avenue.

According to KTVB all of a sudden the passenger in the backseat of the car pulled out a gun and not only threatened the female driver but he threatened the cops as well.

Backup officers arrived on scene but they say eventually they were forced to fire their weapons and the passenger with the gun was killed.

Fortunately officers were not injured in this incident and the female driver is safe.

It really makes me wonder what the back story is on this case? Why was he threatening the female driver? Why was he riding in the back seat? Wouldn't surprise me at all if she was trying to get pulled over to get the cops to intervene.
