A local entrepreneur won the bid for a proposal to renovate the old City Hall building in downtown Meridian. According to the Idaho Statesman, Josh Evarts, who has lived in Meridian for 27 years and already transformed several buildings in the downtown area, beat our an Oregon-based developer, deChase Miksis for the proposal.

Evarts is determined to revitalize the downtown Meridian area, and he plans to get going with that plan with his mixed-use development. According to the Statesman, the plan is to build two four-story buildings that would include -on the first floor- 17,000 square feet of retail space, topped off with residential units on the remaining floors. The apartments would range in rates from $900 to $1,100 per month.

In an interview with the Statesman, Evarts says he would like to see "greater densities near downtown" where people can live, work, and play without having to go far.
