My Weekend Trip To Missouri
My trip to the 'Show Me' State!
I spent Memorial Day Weekend in a little place called Nevada, Missouri. My oldest brother and his family live there, and my nephew graduated High School on Sunday. Let me start by saying that my family is very important to me, and it was great to see them. I just wish they didn't live in Missouri.
I flew into Kansas City at 9:00pm Saturday night. My other brother had flown in from California a couple hours earlier, and picked me up. Nevada is about two hours from Kansas City. It's a fairly small town about the size of Mountain Home. We got there around 11, and went directly to my brother's house because they were throwing a BBQ/Graduation Party for my nephew.
After a couple games of beer pong, one of my brother's family friends had a few too many and wanted to wrestle. I politely declined, and she got a little angry and bit my brother. I've met a few rednecks in my day....Well, I'll just leave it at that. Thankfully, we were able to escape and made it safely back to our hotel room.
Sunday we went to my nephew's graduation, which was really cool. It made me very proud to hear his name called as he walked across the stage and was handed his diploma.

After graduation, we went back to my brother's house to have a BBQ with family and friends. We played a game called 'Washers' that involved throwing washers into a PVC pipe. It seems to be all the rave in Nevada, Missouri. We also went on a mission to find turtles because I wanted to catch one. We tried, but were not successful. We did find some tree frogs in the pool, however.

Later on in the evening someone came over with a baby raccoon.

On Monday, we met my brother's family at the '54 Cafe' for breakfast before taking a tour of pre-Civil War era houses around Nevada. I learned all about Missouri's role in the Civil War. It was a great way to spend Memorial Day.
Besides the humidity, the chiggers (look them up), and drunken redneck debauchery, it was a great trip. I really enjoyed spending time with my family, and learned a lot about Missouri's history.
To sum it up, I am very thankful to live in Idaho. The water is clean, you can wear sandals in your front yard, and can usually have a get together with your friends without being bit by one of them. They call Missouri the 'Show Me' State, and now I know why. It showed me how blessed I am to call Idaho home.
