Nightmare: Did You Know That Idaho Has Snake Infested Lakes?
As someone who gets the creeps just thinking about snakes, the idea of visiting any of Idaho's snake-infested lakes sends shivers down my spine. Don't get me wrong, the lakes are beautiful, but you'll never find me lounging by these waters!
Take Lake Couer d'Alene, for example. It's a paradise for fishing and birdwatching, but knowing Common and Terrestrial Garter Snakes are lounging around is enough to keep me at bay. They might be harmless, but I'll admire those views from a distance, thank you very much.
Now, Boise Cascade Lake sounds like a peaceful place to hike, except for the fact that the Western Rattlesnake might pop up with its ominous rattle. As someone who jumps at the sound of a twig snapping, I think I'll pass on the heart palpitations.
Magic Reservoir is another picturesque spot for swimming and boating. But the thought of a rattlesnake sharing the water makes my skin crawl. I'll stick to a pool, where the only thing I have to worry about is the sunburn.
Lake Lowell is known for its birdlife, and I'm sure it's a sight to see. But the gopher snake, with its dramatic rattlesnake impersonation, would have me running for the hills.
Finally, there's Langer Lake, nestled in the tranquil wilderness. It's home to the Prairie Rattlesnake, and while they're shy, my overactive imagination is enough to keep me away.
These lakes are undeniably stunning, but my snake-phobia means I'll appreciate them from afar. If you're braver than I am, just remember to stay alert and enjoy Idaho's natural beauty safely!
