You may have noticed smoke in the sky in Boise yesterday... In the process of being demolished, Valley View Elementary School caught fire.

I noticed the smoke as I was heading home from work yesterday just after 11 a.m as I got on the connector leaving downtown Boise. As soon as I got home, I hopped online to see what had burned and as it turned out, it was the soon-to-be demolished old facility for Valley View Elementary School in Boise. They built a new facility before tearing down the old and while the staff had already moved to the new facility (and kids are out for summer), the old school caught on fire.

According to, the biggest part of the fire was put out by noon and the new facility was left undamaged. Now that there has been a fire, the rest of the demolition has been delayed as the fire department works to find out what caused this fire; whether or not it had something to do with construction/demolition or some other cause entirely. Two minor injuries were reported by construction workers who were on the scene, though they were treated at the scene and no one else was hurt.

The new facility for Valley View elementary school will open for the 2021-2022 school year and thanks to our brave fire fighters from the Boise Fire Department, the school will open unharmed from Monday's fire. Milwaukee Street near Valley View elementary school is no longer blocked off from the fire fighters' efforts.
