The only catch? We'll have to wait a while.

The Idaho Transportation Department has plans to make Chinden Blvd a six-lane highway between Eagle Rd to I-84 in Caldwell.

We'll have to wait a while, though. Completion of the project wouldn't happen until 2040. However, ITD plans to make stretches of Chinden into four lanes.

There is already funding efforts underway to begin widening one mile of Chinden - between Eagle and Locust Grove - to four lanes. That project would begin in 2021.

The long-term project is tentatively divided into three construction phases:

Near-term (through 2024): Widen six miles from Eagle Road west to McDermott Road to four lanes.

Mid-term (2025-2032): Widen 8 1/2 miles from McDermott west to Smeed Parkway to four lanes. Widen three miles from Eagle Road west to Linder Road to six.

Long-term (2033-2040): Widen 12 miles from Linder west to I-84 to six lanes.
